New year, new iPhone rumors! It looks like the iPhone 15 series is geared for some changes in design and features, and we’re here to round up the latest information for you. Here’s what we know so far:
When will it be released?
If Apple follows their previous launch timelines, they’ll announce the iPhone 15 models in September 2023. Last year it launched on September 7th and released September 16th, so we predict a launch around September 6th with a release date around September 15th.
How many models are in the series?
Like last year, the iPhone 15 lineup will probably include two 6.1 inch models (iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro) and two 6.7 inch models (iPhone 15 Plus and iPhone 15 Pro Max).
How much will they cost?
In 2023, the iPhone 14 started at $799 for the entry-level and up to $1,599 for the 14 Pro Max. It’s very possible prices will remain similar for iPhone 15, but keep in mind prices substantially increased for other regions for the iPhone 14 series. The United States might see a price rise this year that didn’t happen in 2023.
According to Chinese social network Weibo, we might see a price increase specifically for the iPhone 15 Pro due to more advanced features coming. On the other hand, Korean leaker yeux1122 suggests Apple might lower costs for iPhone 15 in reaction to soft iPhone 14 Plus sales. We might see Apple adjust pricing to make the lower-cost iPhones more appealing to shoppers.
What features could they have?
- Design: several design leaks have shown the iPhone 15 returning back to a curved design, which we haven’t seen since the iPhone 11 Pro Max. All models could also have thinner, curved bezels.
- Colors: no colors are confirmed yet, but there is speculation there will be a dark red color option for the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. There’s also a rumor Apple is looking at a light blue and pink color options for the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus. Weibo also claims a cyan (green) option could be available for those two models as well.
- Lightning Port: this might be the year that Apple finally gets rid of the lightning port. Apple has already confirmed this change would eventually happen, it’s just when. Since the European Union mandated all phones will have to use USB-C by 2024, we’ll see if iPhone 15 is the first series to get ahead of that deadline, or if Apple waits until next year’s phones.
- Camera: the basic iPhone 15 might get a Pro-like camera this year. And according to Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 15 Pro Max might exclusively get a periscoping variable zoom camera, which offers double the zooming power.
